Preliminary illustration by American artist Garth Williams for a scene on page 2 of E.B. White's 1952 book, ''Charlotte's Web.'' This pencil sketch depicts Fern urging her father not to kill Wilbur, the piglet who would become her pet. Williams initials the 8.5'' x 11'' drawing ''GW'' at the lower right and numbers it ''3.16328'' on the verso. Minor creasing, else near fine condition.
