Order of The British Empire medal, awarded to munitions officer G. Humphreys for his distinguished service during WWI. Humphreys was recommended in 1918 for the Order of the British Empire by Minister of Munitions Winston Churchill. Medal features a scene at the center circumscribed ''For God and the Empire'' on the front and, on back, a monogram and tiny makers' marks. Cross patonce shaped medal features a crown finial, from which it is suspended from a purple ribbon with pin on the back. Housed in aubergine Garrard & Co. jewel box with O.B.E. in gilt upon the hinged lid. Interior is lined in cream satin and velvet, with Garrard label inside, reading in part, ''...Goldsmiths, Jewelers, & C. / TO THE KING / By Special Appointment / To The Crown...'' Abrasions to case and some wear to interior lining. Accompanied by a 4.25'' x 5.25'' cabinet card photo of Humphreys and a typed letter signed from the Acting Secretary of the Order of the British Empire officially informing Humphreys of his nomination. Single-page letter measures 7.5'' x 10''. Medal measures 2'' x 2.75'' excluding ribbon. Medal shows some tarnishing, else near fine.
