President Franklin D. Roosevelt typed letter signed on White House stationery. FDR here responds to his friend Howard S. Cullman's open letter to the ''New York Times'' addressing an upcoming bill on tax exemptions for corporate gifts. Roosevelt's response, dated 29 July 1935, reads in part: ''...Your argument in a very special case like that of the Beekman Street Hospital is grand...that particular end of things could be handled by annual contracts which would bring you in from these corporations just as much money as you get now...I think the proposed bill makes no changes in existing law...'' Single page letter measures 6.25'' x 8'', framed to a total size of 25'' x 21''. Very good to near fine.
