Sir William Ramsay autograph letter signed, dated 24 October 1912. The Scottish chemist received the 1904 Nobel Prize for ''the discovery of the inert gaseous elements in the air,'' known as the noble gases. He writes to a Mr. Ritchie to thank him for a report. The letter reads in part: ''...I did not get your note in time to make the reference to Lavoisier [French chemist] which you suggested...'' He signs: ''William Ramsay''. The 5'' x 6.5'' card style single page letter on Hotel Somerset letterhead is near fine.
