Charming self-portrait sketch by Enrico Caruso, signed by the opera great at bottom. Best known for his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci,'' Caruso sang as a tenor at the New York Metropolitan Opera and counted Italian, German and French operas among his repertoire. His demeanor was friendly -- he often signed autographs for fans, and his jovial disposition can be seen in this self-portrait. Caruso renders the drawing in blue pencil upon a printed form, matted in white to an overall size of 10.5'' x 14.5''. Foxing and toning, with a numerical pencil notation to lower right, else near fine.
