Rare official ''Certificate of Discharge'' of surviving Titanic crew member Thomas Knowles, issued by England's Board of Trade, relieving him of service on the Norman ship, dated 21 December 1896 in Southampton, where the Titanic set sail in 1912. Knowles saw service on several vessels before taking the place of a deserting crew member to have a chance to serve as a firemen's messman aboard the Titanic. The 8'' x 6'' document, possibly signed by Knowles, shows moderate soiling and wear. Overall in very good condition.
