Preliminary ''Charlotte's Web'' illustration by American artist Garth Williams. In this pencil sketch, Farmer Arable, who wanted to kill the newborn piglet runt, Wilbur, shows his concern at his daughter Fern's reaction. Williams initials the 8.5'' x 11'' drawing ''GW'' at the bottom right and numbers it ''3.16331'' on the verso. Minor creasing, else near fine condition.
