U.S. flag flown in space aboard the Columbia on NASA's very first space shuttle mission. Flag is mounted to a certificate bearing mission insignia and photos of the spacecraft, along with a printed statement that reads: ''Presented to Thomas J. Cassity / This flag was flown aboard Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-1) April 12-14, 1981. It is presented to you in recognition of the significant contribution you made to the success of the mission.'' Flag measures 5.75'' x 4''. Certificate measures 8.5'' x 11''. Faint toning to certificate, else near fine.
