Arthur Ashe black leather medicine bag, with various medicines used by Ashe included. Contents of the bag run the gamut of OTC medicines: Neosporin, ClearAid cream, Anusol hemorrhoid remedy, Philip's Milk of Magnesia, Lidosporin Otic solution and Halazone (for the sterilization of drinking water). Ashe suffered a heart attack in 1979 and underwent a complicated quadruple bypass surgery in 1979, and then a subsequent heart surgery in 1983. Though Ashe was forced to retire his tennis career after his heart attack, he continued to promote various tennis-related organizations, as well as civic and humanitarian causes throughout the rest of his life.
