Award presented to Arthur Ashe from Richmond Public Schools, where he attended school as a youth. Here, the school system recognizes his incredible achievements with a certificate mounted behind beveled glass. It reads in part: ''...whose brilliance was nurtured as a student in Richmond Public Schools, always found his way back home to Richmond...was the embodiment of grace...source of inspiration for all humankind...'' Plaque was bestowed on Ashe in 1993, the year of his death. Certificate bears a School Board of Richmond seal to the lower right and is signed by the Chairman. A small plate near the bottom edge displays the tennis great's full name, ''Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr.'' A sticker to verso identifies Bunkie Trinite Trophies as the maker. Measures 10.5'' x 13''. Light rippling to edges of certificate, and a minor spelling error in the text, else near fine. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
