ALS from Union soldier identified only as Franklin. Written in ink and datelined ''Marine Barracks, Sept 17th/62 Washington D.C.'' Excerpt: ''...I was out through the city yesterday, I seen Sam Albright and one of Musser's boys, they are in Company K 35th Regt. They are encamped on capital hill guarding a lot of rebel prisoners...every thing is in an uproar just now since the rebels have gotten onto Maryland, some are afraid, some are rejoicing, this town is full of secesh. I believe that half of the people are rebels here. If a soldier walks along some of the streets, some of the ladies will say look at the yanky pups...I got a picture taken yesterday which I will send in this letter. When you get it, please write immediately and let me know you got it, write soon for I don't think that we will be here long any more. There are some going out almost every day, my turn will soon come to go. I am ready to go any time now, I am getting tired laying here, I have seen all I want to see in Washington and am anxious to go somewhere else. We are all drilled now and ready to go to fight...'' Letter measures 5'' x 8'' and runs 3pp. Some scattered foxing and bite to left side, overall good.
