National Association for Sport & Physical Education 1987 Special Recognition pewter platter awarded to Arthur Ashe to honor his contribution in the fields of sports education. Among his many civic pursuits during his retirement, Ashe founded the National Junior Tennis League and contributed to countless philanthropic organizations during his retirement. Pewter platter reads: ''National Sport Hall of Fame Arthur Ashe / For serving as role model to people of all ages and continued contributions to the development of tennis / 1987''. Platter, which measures 14'' in diameter, sits uneven from a slight bend running through it. A few minor scratches, else very good condition. With an LOA from Ashe's widow.
