Laura Ingalls Wilder autograph letter signed with very interesting content regarding the atomic age at the height of the Cold War. Writing to a fan on 20 March 1953 from her home in Missouri, the famous author writes in part, ''I appreciate your wanting me to write more books, but, my dear, I am 86 years old and can't go through the labor of forming more books. There are, of course, several in my later life but writing for publication is a strain I am not able to stand any more...Since Mr. Wilder's death I am quietly watching the world rush by. / It is good to know you too wish things would move more slowly. Today's pace is killing. People are not constituted to keep up with an atom bomb...Your friend / Laura Ingalls Wilder''. Two page letter on one sheet measures 5.75'' x 7.75''. With tape remnants at top and bottom edges, else near fine condition. Accompanied by envelope hand addressed by Laura Ingalls.
