Jack London first edition of his first novel, ''The Son of the Wolf''. Boston and New York: Houghton, Mifflin and Co., 1900. Likely a first printing, although experts disagree on some first printing points. The three most important points are present: comma after date on copyright page; no periods around ampersand on spine; unbroken ''e'' in ''spruce'' and ''t'' in might'' on bottom two lines of page 147. Bound in gray-black boards with silver detailing, and with a tissued frontispiece by Maynard Dixon titled ''Malemute Kid Halted Him''. Without dust jacket, as issued. Book measures 5.25'' x 7.875'' and runs 252pp. with publishing imprint on last page. Additional blank leaves before endpapers are not present. Light wear, slight cocking with separation starting to rear joint, spot of discoloration on rear board. Overall in very good condition.
