1864 59th Illinois Infantry ALS -- ''...I have drew my gun here and am going to leave here this morning or tomorrow...''

Letter from Stephen W. Gibson of the 59th Illinois Infantry. Accompanied by cover. Written in ink and datelined ''Chatnoog July the 1, 1864,'' Gibson writes during his regiment's participation in the siege of Chattanooga: ''...I am Well at this present time and hope that When this comes to hand that it Will find you injoying some good blessing. I have drew my gun here and am going to leave here this morning or tomorrow. The Boys is all well...we is to gether her. We ar resting to gether. I Want you to Wright and let me know how the folks is geten along. I hav not had any leters from home for some time and I Would like to here frome the folks...'' Stephen Gibson mustered into Company B on 19 March 1864 and mustered out on 8 December 1865 at New Braunfels, Texas. The 59th Illinois saw action at Perryville, Stone's River, Hillsboro and Kennesaw Mountain. Letter measures 5'' x 8'' and runs 2pp. Some toning and soiling, otherwise near fine.
