John Jay autograph letter signed, datelined New York, 20 September 1795. Only weeks after resigning as the first chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court to become New York's governor, John Jay notifies ''Mrs. Wentworth'' that enclosed is ''a copy of the Inventory'' (not included here) and promises to send the colonel's ''account...the moment he [Dr. Post] sends it to me.'' Single page document has some expected foxing, uneven margins and a tear to the lower right, not affecting text. Overall in very good condition, measuring 9.25'' x 4.5''.
