From Big Sur, Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin on 20 November 1960 regarding his current state of affairs. Letter reads in part, ''...I have been offered a stewardship at the RBYC. It carries a salary of 16 pounds annually and full access to the Nat'l Liquor Lobby. What do you think?...Bone [mutual friend Robert] has acquired a female roommate with pneumonia. Landlady threatens eviction and confiscation of all gear. Ruin looms. / Turned down again today for road job. Meanwhile I fester. Now have fine suntan, no money, plenty wine, and weird neighbors. Sandy [Conklin] coming on 28th. Queers have taken me in...I am destitute. Keep me posted. and don't get busted...HST''. Postcard measures 5.5'' x 3.25'', postmarked 22 November 1960 from Big Sur on verso. Moderate creasing, in very good condition.
