Hunter S. Thompson Letter With Handwritten Annotation -- "…Work is holy. For this reason I have stopped looking for it…"

Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed "HST" in type, full of Thompson-esque pithy wisdom. Dated 29 October (1960), he writes to his friend Paul Semonin from San Francisco, just before moving to Big Sur. In part, "Work is holy. For this reason I have stopped looking for it. Tues. morning I commence walking my thumb toward Carmel & Big Sur. Everywhere I went yesterday I found warnings form you…found slur on my ego. When I start writing these lewd stories for $40 each, guess what name I shall write under. Then I'll send them to the C-J [Louisville Courier-Journal] for review. /// Will stay south as long as $$$ holds; then back here for a last-gasp job try. After that, across desert to Aspen; thence maybe east…HST". Postcard is postmarked from San Francisco on 30 October 1960. Measures 5.5" x 3.25". Very good plus condition.
