Ho Chi Minh autograph letter signed, dated 11 May 1946, shortly after the August 1945 Revolution where Ho became President and Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Composed on official government letterhead, Ho reaches out to British Liaison Officer Captain Peter Simpson Jones, inviting him to dine ''with a small number of American & Chinese friends'' and warning him to display the British flag on his DUKW transport vehicle. At this time, different Vietnamese factions were jockeying for power, with the help of international colonial factions. Letter reads in full,
''Dear Sir, / 1. Monday evening, I wish to invite you to a family dinner, with a small number of American & Chinese friends. Will you be so good as to postpone your travel until the next day? / 2. There will be no difficulty. but I ask you to have your National flag on your DUKW, & kindly slow down your car a little, while passing the guardposts, so that the guards can see your flag. / Best friendship! / Yours truly / Ho Chi Minh''. Single page measures 5.5'' x 8.25''. Closed tears and small paper loss extending from punch holes at left. Overall very good with bold handwriting in blue fountain pen.
