Founding member of the Whig party, Henry Clay letter signed as Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams. Written from the State Department, Washington DC on 25 October 1825, Clay writes, ''In compliance with the request contained in your Letter to me of the 29th August last, I enclose, herewith, a copy of the table alluded to therein, and which you desired from this Department - They delay in transmitting it, before this time, has been unavoidable, otherwise you would have received it at an earlier day...[signed] H Clay''. 7.5'' x 9.5'' letter is nicely framed with an engraving of Clay, measuring 20.75'' x 16'' in total. Folds to letter, else near fine.
