Section of ablative heat shield from the liner of the SL-3 nozzle, taken from the rocket booster test performed on 17 June 1967. The SRB test was performed by Aerojet near the Florida Everglades National Park in what stands as the most powerful rocket booster of all time, with 5.88 million pounds of thrust. Heat shield segment was given to Congressman James G. Fulton, who is credited with saving the Space Shuttle program in 1970. Encased in lucite, display measures 5'' x 5.25'' x 1.5'' thick. With red felt bottom. Minor scratching to lucite, overall in very good condition.
