Harry Houdini typed letter signed, with an additional handwritten note by the famed magician. On his personal letterhead, Houdini writes to Faber Birren on 19 December 1923. Birren was one of the most renowned color theorists of the 20th century but at this time, only 23 years old, worked as a bookseller where he befriended Harry Houdini and sold his books. Houdini's letter reads in part,

''My dear Birren: - Am home for a few days, back to St. Louis, Friday night, where I expect to hear from you. / First of all Compliments of the Season. I had a wild time in Texas. Hurt my right leg which necessitated a lay off...'' Houdini then requests specific publications before writing, ''If you can let me have these, I will say 'thank you' in this letter and in person...'' Signed boldly by Houdini in black fountain pen.

Houdini then handwrites a postscript, ''If Pos. send cuts right to my house. / My book is to be called A Magician Among the Spirits''. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Small hole at top with mounting remnants to verso. Toning, split starting along center fold and three hole punched on right edge. Very good condition. Consigned by the family of Faber Birren.
