Affectionate Harper Lee autograph letter signed, dated 17 December 2009, from the author's home in Monroeville, Alabama. Addressed to Don Salter, a longtime acquaintance of Lee's, despite only knowing the author through written correspondence and never actually meeting her in person. Written in black ink on personal stationery, letter reads in full: ''Dear Don: Santa Claus arrived today! The candy is gorgeous and I do thank you for it. You have been so kind to me for so long, you are the best friend I never met! Merry Christmas, and may the new year bring you an abundance of good things! With love, Harper''. Two page letter, front and verso, measures 5.25'' x 7.5'' upon Lee's personal letterhead. Includes original postmarked envelope, where Lee signs again ''N.H. Lee'' above her return address. Near fine.
