Autograph letter signed by Civil War General William T. Sherman, sent from the headquarters of the Army in Washington D.C. on 16 June 1873. Written on Army stationery and sent to U.S. Secretary of Legation Benjamin Moran in London, letter reads, ''...Dear Moran / I am advised that the Revd. Truman Post of Saint Louis Mrs. and his two sons are Gentlemen of Education and [illegible] worth. Am about going abroad and propose to spend some time in England. I command them to you special notice as in every respect entitled to consideration. Please advise them as such permits - as they naturally enquire about. Present them to our Minister General Schenk, a particular friend of mine. And give them letters to Gentlemen at parish they desire to visit. By doing this you will place me under additional obligations.'' Sherman signs, ''Sincly. your friend / W.T. Sherman / General'' to second page of 2pp. letter, written on one sheet. Measures 10'' x 8''. Toning, document folds and very slight discoloration to second page. Very good.
