Undated Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, on Claridge's, London, letterhead. As Commanding General, European Theater of Operations, Eisenhower established his headquarters in London in 1942. Eisenhower's letter, beginning with ''Darling'', reads in part, ''Steve Early has kindly volunteered to bring to you a little present and this note. He's just made Butch and me rather peeved by saying that on Monday noon he'll be having lunch with you & Ruth at the Carlton. I'd give a month's pay for that opportunity! He will tell you how busy we've been. It's terrible -- but there's nothing to do but keep plugging away. At least we never have a dull moment. But mornings & nights are lonely. Thank the Lord for Butch...Lots of love -- and don't forget me.'' Eisenhower signs, ''Yours always / Ike''. Butch is Commander Harry S. Butcher, Eisenhower's friend and naval aide. 6'' x 7'' single sheet letter, written in pencil front and verso, is in fine condition. The accompanying 6.25'' x 4.25'' Claridge's envelope is addressed to Mrs. Eisenhower at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC, where she lived while the General was in Europe. Near fine.
