Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, dated only 17 May. The letter, beginning with ''My darling'', reads in full, ''Today has been a terror, but I have just heard that Fritz Glassburg is starting home tomorrow and I should like him to carry a word to you. I've enclosed a letter to Tex Chandler -- and hope you'll know his mailing address. This cannot possibly be much of a letter -- it's 6:15 -- I'm trying to get hold of Everett, I have 2 conferences still scheduled, and I'd like Glassburg to come to dinner, if I can locate him. Don't tell Gen. Marshall about such a schedule or he'll give me hell. Next week I hope to see Gordon. I hear he is doing well. It seems impossible that I can find so little to talk about entertainingly when I keep so d- busy -- often with your very good friends. But I've found that one of the censorable items is the name of any officer above the grade of lt. colonel -- located in this T.O. But the only ones I know -- at my age, are colonels & generals so that's another item that's out. A nice note just arrived from [son] Johnny. He was very busy with many duties -- but seemingly quite happy! I suppose you'll run up to see him very soon. I hope so. Well dear -- I must push along; please write when you can. I love you, and your letters are the best substitute for your presence. Loads & loads of love.'' Eisenhower signs, ''Always yours / Ike''. Everett is General Everett S. Hughes, Deputy Theater Commander. Minor creasing to 8'' x 10.5'' 2pp. letter, else near fine condition.
