Undated Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie. The letter, beginning with ''Darling'', reads in full, ''Beetle [General Walter Bedell Smith, Eisenhower's Chief of Staff] will give you more info about us than I could put in ten pages. He is coming to Washington on an emergency call -- and I've been so busy I could not write a decent letter. Yesterday I worked (and I mean worked) 22 hours. That's the way it goes. This note is just to say I love you -- all the time -- You're the only woman for me -- and don't ever forget it or doubt it. Write to me soon. I'm sure the April 1 check is awaiting you in Washington. Today I got 3 letters from you. First in a long time & what fun I had reading them.'' He signs, ''Loads & loads of love / Ike''. Letter was likely written circa 1942, when Eisenhower served in Europe as Commanding General and Mamie lived in Washington DC. It was during this separation that Eisenhower's alleged love affair with his driver, Kay Summersby, began. Summersby, who wrote about the affair in the memoir she published after Eisenhower's death, later became his secretary and the affair was said to continue for the next three years. This letter is accompanied by an official War Department envelope addressed to ''Mrs. D.D. Eisenhower'' / ''Courtesy Gen. Smith''. 8'' x 10.5'' single page letter is in fine condition. Minor toning and creasing to 8.75'' x 3.75'' envelope, else very good.
