Colorful bread and butter plate made for the Franklin D. Roosevelt White House, designed by the Roosevelts with the inclusion of the Roosevelt family crest in the scroll pattern around the rim. Originally ordered in 1934, some pieces were reordered in early 1945 for use on the USS Williamsburg, the Presidential yacht, though the service was delivered after FDR's death, and subsequently used by President Truman. China plate by Lenox features the Presidential seal in enamel colors at top, with a band of gold stars against a navy background. A scroll of gilt roses and feathers appears under the band of stars, which was incorporated from the family crest of the Roosevelts, whose name in Dutch, ''roos-veldt'' means field of roses. Plate measures 6.25'' in diameter. Manufacturers stamp on the underside in gilt reads, ''L / Lenox / Made in U.S.A.'' which identifies the set as the later reorder. Fine condition. From the collection of William H. Perkins, Jr.
