Colorful china cup and saucer made for the Franklin D. Roosevelt White House, designed by the Roosevelts with the inclusion of the Roosevelt family crest in the scroll pattern around the rims. Ordered in 1934, this service ensured, remarkably for the first time, that all guests of a large state dinner would be eating off the same set of china. Bouillon cup and saucer by Lenox features the Presidential seal in enamel colors on both pieces, with a band of gold stars against a navy background. A scroll of gilt roses and feathers appears under the band of stars, which was incorporated from the family crest of the Roosevelts, whose name in Dutch, ''roos-veldt'' means field of roses. Cup measures 6.5'' in diameter including handles, and 2'' high. Saucer measures 7.125'' in diameter. Manufacturers gilt stamp on the underside of each piece reads, ''L / Lenox / Made in U.S.A.'' Fine condition. From the collection of William H. Perkins, Jr.
