First UK edition, first impression of ''Why England Slept'' by John F. Kennedy, housed in original dust jacket with price of 3/6 net. London: Hutchinson & Co., Ltd., 1940. With a foreward by Henry R. Luce. Kennedy's first book, adapted from his senior thesis at Harvard, analyzes the appeasement strategy of England, arguing that earlier confrontation with Germany would have caused even greater problems for the country. Runs 256pp. with an additional 16pp. of advertisements, bound in pink-red boards with black lettering. Slight cocking, and some foxing, overall in very good condition. Some creasing and light chipping to jacket, also in very good condition.
