Extremely scarce and coveted Olympics collector's item: one of the 50 minted medals containing part of the meteorite that exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk on 15 February 2013. One year later, Russia awarded 10 of these medals at the Sochi Olympics to athletes who won gold on 15 February 2014, commemorating the 1-year anniversary of the powerful 65-wide asteroid which was the largest recorded natural object to have fallen from space since 1908. This medal is one of the 40 given to non-athletes and comes housed in its original presentation case with certificate card in Russian. Front of medal shows the asteroid exploding over Chelyabinsk in relief, with the piece of meteorite at center. Encircling the medal are ''Chelyabinsk Meteorite'' and ''15.02.2013''. Verso shows the symbol representing the Chelyabinsk region of Russia again with the date ''15.02.2013''. Gold and silver medal measures an impressive 2.75'' ounces. Medal measures 1.875'' in diameter and presentation case measures 3.75'' square. In beautiful, near fine condition.
