John Hancock signed book from his personal library. ''Universal History, From the Earliest Account of Time'', Vol. VII covering Grecian and Asiatic History. London: T. Osborne, 1747. Signed ''John Hancocks'' upon the title page. Measures 5'' x 8''. In original binding split along the spine approximately midway, but expertly repaired. Spine lettering faded with five raised bands bordered in gilt. First blank flyleaf browned and chipped at border, and signed title page lightly toned at border. Internally very clean with only minimal toning. Overall in very good condition. Housed in a custom chemise with marbled boards and a custom one-quarter leather slipcase. One of only a handful of John Hancock signed books from his library to appear at auction over the last 30 years.
