Incredible bronze statue by renowned Australian artist Andrew Rogers entitled: "The Film Director". The huge statue was one of three, originally commissioned for WarnerVillage Cinemas in 1999 as part of a former joint venture between Warner Bros. International UK and Village Roadshow Entertainment Co. of Australia. The imposing statue depicts a proactive engaged cinematographer/director patiently and methodically filming his subject. The director's head and hand merges with the camera and his limbs becomes rolls of film. The Australian artist originally began painting but changed his craft to human form bronze sculptures in the 1990's culminating with this piece. Rogers is famous for his huge land art projects, including the world's largest contemporaneous land art undertaking, "The Rhythms of Life." The project has involved over 6,700 people, 13 countries and is comprised of 48 enormous stone structures. The other two "Film Director" statues can be found across the globe at the Warner Village Cinema Complex in Taipei, Taiwan and the Pathe Balexert, 13 Cinemas Centre in Geneva, Switzerland which receives 6.5 million visitors annually. Rogers carves his signature, "A Rogers", into the statue's right arm and a bronze plaque on the right foot of the statue reads, "Andrew Rogers / The Film Director / 1999 / Melbourne". This incredible statue is currently on exhibition at the Culver City Plaza adjacent the entrance & patio of the Historic Culver Hotel, 9400 Culver Blvd, Culver City, California. Measuring 7' 6" and weighing 750 lbs., The Film Director is one of the best examples of Rogers' early figurative and realism work.
