Broadside issued by Parliament during the English Civil War regarding Laurence Clarkson's ''blasphemous'' book. Dated 27 September 1650, it sentences Clarkson to a month in jail and expels him from England. It also calls for the burning of his book ''The Single Eye.'' His publishers, the wealthy Leveller and eventual New England settler William Rainsborowe are barred from holding office as Justice of the Peace anywhere in England or Wales. Broadside measures 9'' x 10.25'' with irregularly trimmed edges cutting off seal at top. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.5'' x 18.5''. Toning and shadow of print transferred to right side from folding. Very good.
