Broadside issued by Parliament during the English Civil War, appointing a Commander in Chief of Forces to lead their guard in London. Dated 25 June 1650, it appoints Maj. Gen. Phillip Skippon to a perilous position in an unstable post-war London: ''...Skippon...is hereby authorized from time to time to Command, Lead, Conduct and Imploy the forces so raised...for the protection, and safe guarding of the Parliament from all force and violence...for the suppressing of all Tumults, Insurrections, Rebellions, and Invasions...'' Parliament executed King Charles and ruled England under Oliver Cromwell until Charles II reclaimed the throne in 1660. Printed by Edward Husband and John Field, broadside measures 9'' x 10.5'', mounted to a paper board measuring 11'' x 18.25''. Irregularly trimmed edges cutting off seal at top, and toning, creasing and shadow print transferred from folding. Overall very good, especially for age.
