Silver trophy won by Arthur Ashe in men's singles as a promising high school tennis player in 1960. Ashe was already on the fast track to success when he won this tournament, but the extraordinary feats he accomplished in his rather short life likely exceeded even the loftiest of anyone's expectations. Impressive silver trophy comes mounted to a base with an engraved band that reads in full: ''J.F.N. Wilkinson / Memorial / 19 - Mall D.C. - 60 / Men's Singles Winner''. Bowl features a flared rim, domed foot and foliated double handles in the atypical form of fixed rings. Maker's mark is obscured by the base. Trophy measures 8.25'' in height, with mouth and base both measuring 7.75'' in diameter. Weighs 2 pounds, 6 ounces. Mild tarnishing with moderate tarnish to interior, else near fine. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
