King George III document signed, ''George R'' as reigning King of Great Britain and Ireland. Dated 13 December 1765, partially-printed document appoints Daniel Paterson to the position of Ensign in the 30th Regiment of Foot. Vellum document is countersigned, ''Grafton'' by the Duke of Grafton and future Prime Minister, August Henry Fitzroy. Interestingly, Paterson later wrote the bestselling ''Paterson's Roads'' guide to Great Britain. A waffle seal is affixed to the upper left of the document which measures 14'' x 9.5'' in full. Toning and creasing with some fading to ink and notation of Paterson's name and rank to verso panel, else near fine.
