Charlie Athersmith's gold medal from the victory of his team Aston Villa at the First Division Championship in 1899. Medal in 15 carat gold is in the shape of a shield, with smaller shield within containing inlay of red enamel or stone in the shape of a lion rampant. A blue enamel scroll stretches across the top reading, ''Aston Villa F.C. / 1899 / League Champions / Prepared''. Verso is engraved ''C. Athersmith'' and struck with British gold stamps and Vaughtons maker's mark. Some tarnishing, else near fine.
