Lengthy and interesting Dwight D. Eisenhower WWII autograph letter signed, likely from 1943. He writes to his wife, Mamie, in part: ''Darling...Everybody here seems to be at a canter from morning to night. This morning Col. Frederick told me that 2 officers with whom he was traveling brought me a letter from you. In this case - since they came through Ireland, the letter was taken away for censorship. I'll get it tomorrow, probably...Everyone seems to be in good health, including Everett & Bob Littlejohn. The people I see most of are Wayne, Bedell, Butch & Lee. All are fine, and each is a great help to me...We've just asked for Ock Abbott & Chuck Anderson. Got an approval on Ock and I expect to hear from him very shortly. I hope he gets on the road without delay. Time is something that once lost cannot be regained. It seems that this war is just one drive for time!...One of my trials is to refuse invitations. It's hard to explain to anyone that one is 'saving oneself'. I don't like to appear a weakling or a sissy; but there's so much taken out of me in a day that the chore of going to dinner is too much. Most of them are quite official, but recently I've turned down everything and everybody except the PM himself...sometimes I wonder where the time can possibly have gone since June 23 (almost 3 mos) Then again I think I've been here for a lifetime. Give my love to all, especially John. With all my love to you - as ever your devoted / Ike...'' In September 1943, Eisenhower was orchestrating the successful Allied invasion of Italy. 3pp. letter measures 6'' x 9''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
