Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed from Europe during WWII. He writes to his wife, Mamie, dating the letter simply 2 January [1943]. It reads in full: ''Darling: I do not know how to address Miss Kernan except through you - so please pass her the enclosed. I'm sorry it has to be typewritten, but I simply cannot undertake the trouble of trying to write legibly. I know that you will figure out my scrawls; but to anyone else my writing would merely represent illiteracy or indifference. Yesterday I wrote to you - also the day before! I have a suspicion that in these letters I told you I loved you: if I did not - I'll tell you here. I do - Always / Ike''. Original envelope is included, addressed in type to Mamie at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. Single page letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.25''. Faint crease, else fine.
