Dick Scobee autograph letter signed to his parents, written three months before the tragic Challenger STS-51-L mission that Scobee commanded. Undated, but postmarked 29 October 1985, this poignant letter references the vacation that Scobee and his wife planned to take after the Challenger flight to visit his parents. Written on Scobee's personal stationery, letter reads in full, ''Just a quick note to accompany the 'missing' patches. I really enjoyed seeing you all last weekend. Thanks for taking the time to drive over. After the flight we're going to take the vacation we'll really need and come visit you in Yakima. I'll need the relaxation & June has never been there so she'd really like to visit. We'll plan it for sometime after you get back from Needles. / I hope your trip South goes well - Be sure and call us (collect) when you get all settled in. / Got to go for now. Bye / Love, Dick''. Two page letter on one sheet measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Single fold and creasing, overall very good condition. Accompanied by original mailing envelope on Scobee's cardstock. Also with an LOA from Scobee's brother.
