One of the most influential directors of the 20th century, David Lean set of four Academy Award nominations, including two for his acclaimed adaptation of ''Great Expectations''. Lean has been named the ninth greatest film director of all time by ''Sight & Sound'', and has been cited by Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg as a great influence upon their art; (''the bar was too high'' Spielberg would say of ''Lawrence of Arabia''). Lot includes (1) Nomination certificate for ''Outstanding Achievement Direction of 'Great Expectations''' from 1947; (2) Nomination certificate for ''Outstanding Achievement Screenplay 'Great Expectations''' from 1947; (3) Nomination plaque for ''Outstanding Achievement Direction of 'Summertime''' from 1955; (4) Nomination certificate for ''Outstanding Achievement Direction and Screenplay of 'Brief Encounter''' from 1946. All certificates are in original frames measuring 12.75'' x 14.5'' and inlaid wood plaque measures 12'' x 13.5''. Some light to moderate moisture damage affecting certificates, all in good condition. Plaque is in very good condition. From the collection of 20th Century Fox studio executive Peter Beale, who began his own impressive career working for Lean.
