Chinese Imperial Army flag, displaying Chinese characters translated as ''9th Mounted Artillery Unit''. Flag was de-accessioned from the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, which dates the flag to the turn of the 20th century from Peking, likely captured by an American soldier during the Boxer Rebellion. Cotton flag measures 34.5'' x 36.75'' with cream Chinese characters sewn on both sides against the black fabric, with a cream border. Moderate soiling, with two small holes and fraying to the edges. Overall in good condition, as expected with field use.
