Charles Darwin autograph letter signed, dated 1 June 1862, just weeks after the publication of ''Fertilisation of Orchids'', Darwin's follow-up to ''On the Origin of Species''. Darwin here writes to his land agent John Higgins, regarding rent collected from Darwin's farm at Beesby. On his embossed letterhead from Down, Bromley, letter reads in full, ''I beg leave to acknowledge the sum of £240: 7s: 9d to be placed to my account at Union Bank on June 7th; being half year rent since Lady's Day. - I am much obliged to you for informing me that you will call at my Brother, 6 Queen Anne St. on Friday about 12 o'clock, for I shall be particularly glad to have the pleasure of seeing you; & unless I am too unwell to travel, I will certainly be there on purpose at the hour. / My dear sir / Yours sincerely / Ch. Darwin''. Two page letter on single sheet measures 5'' x 8''. Folds and irregular left edge. Darwin purposely signs over a duty stamp at conclusion of letter. Very good plus condition.
