Captain Kangaroo 1958 Official Peabody Award certificate, signed by both the Chairman of the Peabody Award and the Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of Georgia, from where the award is given. The first of three Peabody Awards bestowed on the legendary entertainer. Dated 2 April 1958, award reads in part: ''Be it known that the George Foster Peabody Television Award is hereby presented to Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan), CBS, for Outstanding Youth and Children's Program during 1957 / (...virtually the only children's program left on network television -- certainly the only one which puts the welfare of the children ahead of that of the sponsor; which instructs children in safety, in ethics, in health, without interrupting the serious business of entertaining them at the same time...'' Award is housed in a black frame and measures 10.75'' x 9.25''. Near fine to fine condition.
