Calvin Coolidge signs a document as President appointing Meta A. Faulconer to the position of Notary Public for the District of Columbia. Coolidge was known for his advocacy of civil rights and appointed the first woman to the federal judiciary two years later. Countersigned by John Sargent as Attorney General and dated 16 January 1926. A red Department of Justice seal is affixed to the lower left. Measures 19.25'' x 15''. Light folds and mounting remnant to top edge of verso. Near fine.
