Autographed letter signed by a gold miner in the California Gold Rush. Letter was sent from Goldin City, Kansas Territory, dated 13 June 1860 and reads in full, ''Dear Sister, We have at length arrived at the Rocky Mountains. We are all well. We have all come through safe. But we have bin 79 days on the road. and I was very mutch surprised to find Goldin City as large as it is. Goldin City is as large as Upper Alton there is not as many houses but there is a great deal more Business done hear. I can buy clothing hear very cheap to what I expected. There is plenty to eat hear and plenty to wear. We are going to Start up into the mountains to morow I guess. there is very faverable reports coming down from the mountains every day. There is a great many people hear and there is a great excitement about gold. But I can't give any true statement of it yet. You may meet one man and he will tell you that there is gold hear by the peck and in five minits you can meet another and he will say it is all a humbug. When I write again I will try to give you the particulars. Some say that wages are 3 dollars and bord and some says only 1.50. The reason why I have not wrote before is because there was not pos offices on the road and a man out hear has to be well of if he has many correspondents. For it costs 28 cents to mail a letter or to get one out of the office. They say there is a regular maill going to be started the first of July and when that starts we can get letters for 3 cents. The last letter that I got from you was at Ft. Karney, There is one at Denver for me I spose and if there is one ther I will get it soon. Still direct your letters to Denver City KT and the next letter you write me let me know how the crops look and how you and the Irish and Robert Smith come out. I all most forgot to tell you that I have found old Joe Fountain and his family out hear they come out this sprig there children is all dead but 3. Bill is in Oragon and the oldest girl is married an living in Missouri and Henry is with them. They are going to try the mountains can't make money hear they are going to Oragon. The old woman looks like a old owll and old Jo looks just like he did at Jim King's. They are going over on the Arkansas. We are going to Russles Gulsh when we get there I will write again so nothing more at preasant onley I remain the same old coon.
