Broadside from the Third English Civil War, appointing the last day of February 1649 as a day of humiliation, fasting and prayer. Ordered by Parliament on 4 February 1649, a month after King Charles' beheading, it reads in part: ''...an opportunity to know and acknowledge their sins in the sight of God...his voyce and his hand...rescuing us out of the destroying hands of Tyranny, Poetry, and Superstition...'' Following King Charles I execution, Parliament ruled under Oliver Cromwell until the monarchy was restored in 1660. Measures 9'' x 11''. Toning and a small chip to the upper right corner with irregularly trimmed edges. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.25'' x 18.25''. Very good.
