Prop shield from the Academy Award-winning 1995 historical war epic ''Braveheart.'' Mel Gibson directed and starred as William Wallace in the 13th century drama, which was loosely based on the Scottish War of Independence from King Edward I's England. The Icon Productions & Paramount production won Best Picture and Gibson won Best Director at the 1996 Oscars. Round shield is made of wood with a convex distressed metal piece at center. Handle on the back is wrapped in black leather. Measures 24'' in diameter. Near fine. With provenance from Profiles in History.
