Ogilvie of Brooklyn, asking for a scholarship donation to help pay the tuition costs of the students, who are ''wholly unable to pay'' it themselves, as they have to pay for their own board. Signed ''Booker T. Washington'' in black fountain pen. As Principal of Tuskegee, Washington was the most prominent African American leader at the turn of the century, focusing his efforts on vocational opportunities for black men and women. Single page letter on Tuskegee stationery measures 6'' x 9.5''. Folds, light creasing and paperclip impression, overall very good condition.
